Agent Aspirant – Sales & Leadership Development
Build a Business. Develop a Team. Prepare to Lead.
We are looking for a highly competitive, sales-driven professional who wants more than a traditional insurance career.
The Agent Aspirant position is designed for an individual with the ambition and entrepreneurial mindset to develop toward the opportunity to become a State Farm independent contractor agent.
This is not intended for someone who wants to simply maintain an existing book of business. We are looking for a producer, relationship builder, and future leader who is motivated by goals, accountability, income potential, and ultimately the opportunity to run a business.
You will work directly with the Agent and other Aspirants to learn how to generate business, build a sales pipeline, close opportunities, develop a team, and understand the fundamentals required to operate a successful agency.
What You'll Be Expected to Do
Produce
Sales performance is at the center of this role.
You will be expected to consistently prospect, generate opportunities, conduct needs-based conversations, ask for the business, and close sales.
Responsibilities include:
- Generate new business through outbound prospecting, referrals, networking, lead follow-up, and community relationships.
- Build and maintain a strong personal sales pipeline.
- Conduct insurance and financial services conversations with prospective and existing customers.
- Identify additional opportunities within existing customer households.
- Consistently meet or exceed established production and activity goals.
- Track your results and take ownership of your performance.
- Develop disciplined daily sales habits rather than relying solely on incoming opportunities.
- Ask for referrals and actively create new sources of business.
Compete and Be Accountable
This is a performance-driven environment.
You should be comfortable having your activity, pipeline, conversion rates, and sales results measured and discussed regularly.
Successful candidates will:
- Set aggressive goals and build plans to achieve them.
- Respond well to coaching and direct performance feedback.
- Take personal responsibility for results.
- Maintain a high level of activity even when results do not come immediately.
- Be comfortable with rejection and persistent enough to keep prospecting.
- Look for solutions rather than excuses.
- Want to compete at a high level and continually improve.
Develop Into a Leader
Producing personally is only part of the development process.
As you demonstrate consistent results, you will have opportunities to develop skills in:
- Recruiting and selecting team members
- Training and developing producers
- Sales coaching
- Goal setting and accountability
- Running sales meetings
- Pipeline and performance management
- Marketing and lead generation
- Customer retention
- Agency financial management
- Business planning and execution
The goal is to develop from someone who can produce results personally into someone who can eventually lead others to produce results consistently.
Who We're Looking For
Our ideal candidate is:
-
Highly competitive — you want to win and know your numbers.
-
Sales driven — you enjoy creating opportunities and closing business.
-
Entrepreneurial — you think like an owner rather than an employee.
-
Self-motivated — you don't need someone constantly telling you what to do next.
-
Accountable — you take ownership of both successes and failures.
-
Coachable — you actively seek feedback and implement it.
-
Resilient — rejection doesn't derail your day.
-
Disciplined — you can execute consistently, even when you don't feel motivated.
-
Leadership oriented — you want to eventually recruit, develop, and lead others.
-
Relationship focused — you understand that long-term success comes from earning trust and doing the right thing for customers.
Previous success in sales, business development, leadership, insurance, financial services, recruiting, or entrepreneurship is strongly preferred.
Property & Casualty and Life & Health insurance licenses are preferred. Candidates who are not currently licensed must be willing and able to obtain the required licenses within the established timeframe before starting employment. There is a sign on bonus when timeframe is met.
This Role May NOT Be for You If...
This position probably isn't the right fit if you:
- Prefer waiting for customers to contact you rather than prospecting.
- Are uncomfortable making outbound calls and initiating conversations.
- Avoid asking customers for the sale.
- Become discouraged easily by rejection.
- Prefer a role where performance isn't measured closely.
- Need significant day-to-day direction to stay productive.
- Want primarily a customer service or administrative position.
- Are looking for a comfortable job rather than an opportunity to grow into greater responsibility.
What Success Looks Like
A successful Agent Aspirant doesn't just learn about running an agency—they demonstrate that they can create results.
You will be expected to develop a track record of:
Prospecting → Appointments → Conversations → Sales → Referrals → Repeatable Growth
As your performance grows, so should your ability to help other team members succeed.
The Opportunity
You'll receive direct coaching and hands-on experience in sales, leadership, marketing, recruiting, customer development, and agency operations.
For the right individual, this position provides an opportunity to develop the skills and experience associated with running a high-performing insurance and financial services business.
Our objective is to develop someone capable of eventually saying:
“I can generate business. I can lead people. I can build a team. I can run a business.”
The Agent Aspirant development path does not guarantee selection or appointment as a State Farm agent. State Farm independently determines eligibility, selection, and appointment based on its applicable requirements.
Ready to Compete?
If you're looking for a predictable job where you can simply complete assigned tasks, this probably isn't the opportunity for you.
If you want to sell, compete, develop as a leader, build your income, and prepare yourself for the possibility of business ownership, we want to meet you.
Compensation: $40,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
State Farm agents are independent contractors who hire their own employees. State Farm agents’ employees are not employees of State Farm. Agents are responsible for and make all employment decisions regarding their employees.
